Tigers Tennis Team Sinks Mariners
The Brenau tennis team began their 2013 Spring Break with a win over the College of Coastal in Brunswick yesterday that also counted as their inaugural conference match of the 2013 season. The Tigers quickly disposed of their opponents, taking all three points in doubles play and all but one singles match. Brenau runs its overall record 4-0/1-0 in the SSAC. The Tigers are also the NAIA #2 ranked team nationally as of the latest poll.
Coach Ferreira had this to say following their win last night, "It was a positive dual match for several reasons. Of course it feels good to win a conference match. But it was even better to see Steph [Stephanie Moniz] healthy again, back on the courts for doubles and for an entire set of singles. Same feeling goes to Vladica [Djurdjevic], who was able to play singles again today. As far as performances, the team did a great job in doubles, while Maria [Perdomo] and Zalina [Nazarova] played lights out tennis both in singles and doubles. We are looking forward to the remaining matches this week".
Brenau will take on Hillsborough Community College today in Orlando, Fla. Hillsborough captured the NJCAA National Championship in 2008 and are a perennial contender for the junior college women's tennis national championship. Today's match is at 5:30pm at Oak Street Park in Kissimmee, Fla.
