Brenau Hosts National Tennis Tournament Qualifying Sets
Brenau University will host the 2012 USTA/ITA Regional Tennis Championships from Friday through Sunday, Sept. 28-30, with singles and doubles matches that will feature some of the top collegiate tennis players in the country.
Play commences Friday at 8:30 a.m. at the Lessie Smithgall Tennis Center on the Brenau campus and at nearby Longwood Park, located at 20 Pearl Nix Parkway NW in Gainesville, Ga. All matches are open to the public.
The U.S. Tennis Association/Intercollegiate Tennis Association-sanctioned event features players from eight institutions in the Southeast - Auburn University-Montgomery, Brenau, Belhaven University, Loyola University, Reinhardt College, William Carey University and Xavier University. Players participating include All-Americans Jade Curtis from AUM and Dominika Jasova from Brenau in the women's matchups and Nicholas Pinones-Haltenhoff of AUM and William Carey's Jody Claassen among the men.
Winners in the regional tournament receive automatic bids to the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics small college national championship in Mobile, Ala., scheduled for Oct. 13-15.
