Brenau Beats William Carey in Top Ten Contest

Hattiesburg, MS- In a battle of two NAIA top ten teams played this afternoon in Hattiesburg, MS, No. 7 Brenau University defeated No. 10 William Carey University 8-1.

The senior duo of Choo/Thompson started the day well for the Tigers, defeating Vuzem/Spruch 8-1 at doubles No. 1. Soon afterwards, Golden Tigers Neumeyr/Moniz increased the lead, defeating Pesic/Oliveira 8-2 at match No. 3. Perdomo-Medina/Nagels gave Brenau the third point, winning on court No. 2 against Orna/Collin 9-7.

In singles action, senior Lyn See Choo was once again first off the courts, defeating Maja Vuzem 6-2, 6-0. Crusader- Petra Pesic- decreased the overall score by winning on court No. 3 against Theresa Neumeyr 6-3, 6-1. Soon after, freshman Maria Perdomo-Medina clinched the victory for the Tigers, winning 6-4, 6-3 over Carola Orna at singles No. 2.

The Tigers picked up three more singles wins in the afternoon. Tiffany de Almeida defeated Crusader Joyce Oliveira 6-3, 6-3 at match No. 6; Eline Nagels won 6-2, 4-6, 10-8 at No. 5 singles over Mallin Collin; and senior Hannah Thompson defeated Sarah Spruch at the No. 4 court 6-3, 4-6, 10-7.

With the victory, Brenau improves to 4-3 in the overall record and 2-0 in the SSAC. William Carey drops to 5-5 overall and 1-1 in conference play. The Golden Tigers will return to the courts on Friday, March 16th in another SSAC contest against Emmanuel College. The match is set to begin at 3 pm in Franklin Springs, GA.
