#8 Golden Tigers Take Down #16 Lady Flames

Cleveland, TN - The Golden Tigers traveled to Lee University to compete against the Lady Flames in another SSAC match.
The Golden Tigers outperformed the Lady Flames in doubles No. 1 and No. 2. Choo/Thompson won at No. 1 (8-2), while Mazackova/Orlova won at No. 2 (8-3). Doubles No. 3, however, proved to be a battle from beginning to end. Golden Tigers Moniz/Nagels maintained an aggressive style towards the end, defeating Anic/Sherlin in the tie-break, 9-8 (1).
With the 3-0 lead, Brenau needed two wins in singles to seal the victory. Junior Lyn See Choo finished first, defeating Kelsey Gray 6-2, 6-2 at the No. 1 position, and giving Brenau a 4-0 lead. Senior Kate Mazackova clinched the victory at No. 2 singles by defeating Annie Sandberg 6-2, 6-3. Brenau took two other points at No. 4 and No. 6 singles. Senior Liubov Orlova cruised in the first set and battled in the second to bring another victory to Brenau 6-0, 7-6 (6) over Emily Orist. Freshman Steph Moniz continued playing aggressively in singles, coming to the net at every opportunity. She defeated Kassidy Sherlin (Lee) 6-1, 7-5. The two points for the Lady Flames came at singles No. 3 and No. 5. Sara Anic defeated Golden Tiger Hannah Thompson at No. 3 6-3, 6-2 and Lady Flames Tarah Garner defeated Eline Nagels at No. 5 6-3, 6-3.
With the victory, Brenau now holds a 3-0 record in the SSAC and a 5-3 overall record in the season.
The Golden Tigers go back to the courts on Tuesday (March 22nd) at the Smithgall Tennis Center - 2:30 pm. Brenau hosts defending NCAA III Champions Williams College from Massachusetts.
