Swimming Places Fourth at Sewanee Invitational

Sewanee, Tennessee- The Brenau swim team placed fourth at the 20th Annual Sewanee Invitational hosted by The University of the South this past weekend.

Senior Bayley Blackmon led the individual performances with titles in the 50 butterfly, which set a new meet record in 26.83, and the 50 backstroke in 28:17. The Dothan, Alabama native also added a pair of second place individual finishes in the 100 freestyle (55.38) and the 50 freestyle (25.17).

Freshman Cloe Barthelemy started her Golden Tigers' career with a solid performance as she captured third place in the 100 freestyle (55.42) and the 50 freestyle (25.42), fourth place in the 200 freestyle (2:03.16), sixth place in the 100 IM (1:04.40) and seventh place in the 50 butterfly (28.68).

Fellow freshman Gwyneth Durak also had a strong first meet as she placed third place in the 200 IM (2:19.03), fourth place in the 500 freestyle (5:30.75), fifth place in the 1650 freestyle (19:19.74), 16th in the 50 breaststroke (36.18) and 17th in the 50 freestyle (27.19).

The Golden Tigers also had a nice day in the relay events as the 200 freestyle relay team of Barthelemy, Durak, Ibarra and Blackmon won the event in a time of 1:42.93. The team added a third place finish in the 100 medley relay as Blackmon, Durak, Bartoletta and Barthelemy captured 3rd place in 54.16.

The Golden Tigers tallied 357.5 points to finish fourth at the meet. The host team, Sewanee, took top team honors with 1022 points, while Emmanuel (Ga.) College (988 points) and University of Montevallo (696.5) rounded out the top finishers.

Brenau next hosts Piedmont (Ga.) University and Point (Ga.) University in a tri-meet on November 6th in Gainesville.
