Swimming Captures Third Place at 2021 AAC Championships
Kingsport, Tennessee- Junior Bayley Blackmon captured her third individual title and received Women's Co-Swimmer of the Meet honors to help the Golden Tigers swim team finish third at the 2021 Appalachian Athletic Conference Swimming and Diving Championships on Saturday.
Blackmon, who won top honors in both the 50 freestyle and the 100 butterfly, edged past Asbury's Hope Clark by .76 seconds to take first place 100 freestyle in 53.04. Blackmon shared the Swimmer of the Meet honors with Asbury's Amber Schulte.
The Golden Tigers also had a pair of top three finishes as the Blackmon joined teammates Emily Giles, Nikoletta Alvanou and Meghan Mistric to win third place in the 400 freestyle relay, while Alvanou continued her strong individual performance at the meet with a third place finish in the 200 breaststroke in 2:30.21.
Other top Brenau finishers on the final day of competition include:
Haley Bartoletta, fourth place, 200 butterfly, 2:20.56;
Vivianne Fuentes, seventh place, 21:09.88; thirteenth place, 100 freestyle, 1:02.58;
Emily Giles, eighth place, 100 freestyle, 59.56;
Bailey Ibarra, 1650 freestyle, fifth place, 19:22.36;
In total, the Golden Tigers captured eight top-three finishes, including five individual titles at the championships.
Asbury University (Ky.) won its second consecutive AAC women's team title with 740 points to narrowly defeat Milligan University (Tenn.) by twelve points. Brenau placed third with 391 points, while Columbia College (S.C.) took fourth place with 263 points.
