Golden Tigers Swimming Tops Converse in Dual Meet

Spartanburg, South Carolina- The Brenau swimming and diving team defeated Converse (SC) College 110-84 in a dual meet this past weekend.

The 200 medley relay team of Bayley Blackmon, Nikoletta Alvanou, Haley Bartoletta and Melanie Wicht paced the Golden Tigers, which captured seven first place finishes at the meet. The squad outdistanced the Valkyries by over six seconds in the relay to capture the win.

Additionally, the 200 freestyle relay team of Wicht, Alvanou, Blackmon and Emily Giles also earned first place in 1:46.67.

Alvanou and Blackmon each earned two individual first place finishes against Converse. Alvanou won the 200 freestyle in 2:08.91 and also led the 200 breaststroke in 34.27. Blackmon won the 100 yard IM in 1:06.14 and also out touched the competition in the 50 butterfly in a time of 27.36.

Junior Bailey Ibarra also captured top individual honors in the 100 freestyle with a time of 1:01.11.The Canton, Ga. native also added a pair of third place finishes in the 50 and the 200 freestyle.

Meghan Mistric, second place, 200 freestyle, 2:15.90; second place, 50 breaststroke, 36.18;

Melanie Wicht, fifth place, 100 IM, 1:10.70; second place, 50 butterfly, 28.75;

Vivianne Fuentes, fourth place, 200 freestyle, 2:23.11; fourth place, 100 freestyle, 1:05.70;

Emily Giles, second place, 50 backstroke, 33.48; second place, 100 freestyle, 1:02.61;

London Faile, fourth place, 50 backstroke, 35.01;

Brenau next competes at the Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) Championships held from February 11-13 in Kingsport, Tennessee.
