Swimming Takes Third at Emmanuel Invitational

Franklin Springs, Georgia- The Brenau swim team posted three first place finishes en route to a third place finish at the Emmanuel (Ga.) College Invitational this past weekend.

Bayley Blackmon led the Golden Tigers with two individual first place finishes at the invitational. The junior won the 100 butterfly by over two seconds and then took top honors in the 100 freestyle in 53.73.

Senior Nikoletta Alvanou also posted a first place finish in the 400 IM in 4:50.29 as well as a third place finish in the 200 IN in 2:15.70. She also added a third place finish in the 200 IM in 2:15.70.

Blackmon and Alvanou each helped all three of the Golden Tiger relay teams earn second place honors. The pair joined Haley Bartoletta and Melanie Wicht in both the 200 medley relay (1:54.02) and the 400 medley relay (4:13.21), while Blackmon, Bartoletta, Wicht and Emily Giles earned second place honors in the 200 freestyle relay in 1:42.02.

London Faile, eighth place, 100 backstroke, 1:13.70; eighth place, 200 backstroke, 2:44.83;

Vivianne Fuentes, 13th place, 500 yard freestyle, 6:09.79; 12th place, 200 freestyle, 2:15.30;

Emily Giles, eighth place, 100 freestyle, 58.98; 11th place, 200 freestyle, 2:13.74;

Bailey Ibarra, eighth place, 200 freestyle, 2:10.65; fourth place, 1650 freestyle, 19:59.59;

Meghan Mistric, second place, 200 backstroke, 2:22.45; fifth place, 200 IM, 2:24.21; fifth place, 100 backstroke, 1:07.42;

Melanie Wicht, third place, 100 butterfly, 1:01.21; seventh place, 100 freestyle, 58.47;

Brenau garnered 512 total points to finish behind host Emmanuel College (900 points) and the University of Montevallo (Ala.) (764 points). Piedmont (Ga.) College finished fourth with 446 points and Point (Ga.) University placed fifth with 152 points.

The squad takes a break for the holidays but will return to compete at the Women's Invitational hosted by Columbia (S.C.) College in Columbia, South Carolina on January 16th.
