Golden Tigers Swimming Tops Columbia College

Columbia, South Carolina- The Brenau swim team amassed nine total first place finishes to roll past Columbia (SC) College in a dual-meet this past Saturday.

Individually, senior Nikoletta Alvanou led the way with two individual first place finishes. The Thessaloniki, Greece native captured wins in the 200 IM (2:21.46) and the 200 breaststroke (2:38.91).

Freshman Melanie Wicht also won multiple events as she raced to victory in both the 200 freestyle (2:08.72) and the 100 freestyle (59.52).

A pair of Golden Tiger juniors won top honors as Haley Bartoletta and Bayley Blackmon won the 200 butterfly (2:27.88) and the 50 freestyle (25.67) respectively. Bartoletta also took second place in the 200 IM in 2:26.30.

Senior Meghan Mistric also took home top honors in the 200 backstroke in 2:26.89. She also capped off a solid day with a fourth place in the 200 IM (2:28.63).

Other top individual finishers include:

Emily Giles, second place, 100 freestyle, 59.90; third place, 50 freestyle, 27.65;

Bailey Ibarra, second place, 200 freestyle, 2:17.48; fourth place, 50 freestyle, 29.10; fourth place, 100 freestyle, 1:03.18;

Vivianne Fuentes, fourth place, 200 freestyle, 2:24.64; fifth place, 100 freestyle, 1:05.25;

Additionally, the 400 medley relay and the 200 freestyle relay each won first place. The 400 medley relay team of Blackmon, Alvanou, Wicht and Giles raced to a fast 4:21.57, while the team of Blackmon, Giles, Funes and Bartoletta won the 200 freestyle relay in 1:49.96.

The squad hits the pool again on November 14-15 when the team races at the Emmanuel (Ga.) College quad meet in Franklin Springs, Ga.
