Swimming Places Fourth at SCAD Invite
The Brenau swim team placed fourth out of fourteen teams at the SCAD Invitational this past weekend in Savannah.
In a highly competitive field, the Golden Tigers swimmers earned 17 top eight finishes to earn 314 total points.
Individually, Courtney Hayward had four standout performances at the Invite, topped off by a three second victory in the 1650 freestyle (17:14.67). The senior also placed second in the 500 yard freestyle in 5:00.77, fourth in the 400 yard IM in 4:34.58 and sixth in the 400 yard IM in 4:36.38.
Maggie Norton also won the 200 backstroke (2:21.69), second in the 200 freestyle (2:03.56) and placed fourth in the 50 freestyle.
Ella Kleinschmidt notched a first place finish in the 100 freestyle (55:03) and third in the 50 freestyle.
Other top individual finishes include:
- Alisha Hodgetts, eighth in the 100 yard butterfly (58:75);
- Lindsay Dowling, fifth in the 100 backstroke (58:27); fifth in the 200 backstroke (2:05.86);
- Maria Quiroga, first in the 200 freestyle (2:01.64);
The Brenau relays also had a strong day, starting with an eighth place finish for the 200 medley relay "A" team of Dowling, Sarah Frey, Hodgetts and Madison Kosater, which placed eighth out of 23 teams with a time of 1:52.18.
Other top relay finishers:
Dowling, Chloe Ireland, Hayward and Quiroga, fourth in the 800 freestyle relay (8:01.66);
Ireland, Hodgetts, Kosater and Anna Rose, sixth in the 200 freestyle relay (1:40.72);
Rose, Kosater, Hodgetts and Ireland, eighth in the 400 freestyle relay (3:41.43);
Wingate (SC) University captured top team honors with 1273 points, while Emory (Ga.) University (559 points) and host SCAD-Savannah (418 points) rounded out the top three finishers.
Brenau next swims against Converse (SC) College for Senior Day on January 13th in Gainesville.
