Swimming Finishes Third at SCAD Invitational
The Brenau swim team amassed 691 points and a third place finish at the SCAD Invitational this weekend in Savannah, Georgia.
The Golden Tigers finished in third place behind host SCAD-Savannah (947.5 points) and reigning NCAA Division III national champion Emory (Ga.) University (925.5 points).
After a strong day one, Maggie Norton (200 freestyle/2:01.80), Sarah Frey (100 breaststroke/1:10.10), Devin Horan (100 backstroke/4:56.80), and Maria Soledad Morell Quiroga (400 individual medley/4:56.80) each set new NAIA national qualifying times. Lindsay Dowling (25:51) and M.K. Jabbia (25:97) also set new national qualifying times in the 50 freestyle.
The Golden Tigers also had several first place finishes on day two as Jabbia won the 100 breaststroke (1:05.54) and the 200 breaststroke (2:25.10) and the 400 Medley Relay team of Dowling, Jabbia, Hodgetts and Courtney Hayward won in a blistering time of 3:56.84.
Hayward also continued her strong meet with a second place finish and new team record in the 200 freestyle (1:52.89) and a second place finish in the 400 individual medley (4:30.06).
On the final day, Dowling placed second in the 200 yard backstroke (2:03.78) while Hayward won the 500 yard freestyle (5:00.63). Hodgetts and Frey also captured individual wins in the 100 yard butterfly and the 200 yard breaststroke respectively.
The 4x100 relay team of Hodgetts, Madison Kosater, Ella Kleinschmidt and Hayward wrapped up the meet with a third place finish in 3:36.45.
"We had a lot of great swims, but more importantly we had tremendous efforts," said head coach Nate Rhodes. "The ladies exceeded all expectations, both mentally and physically, and I'm really proud of where we stand going into the championship season."
The Golden Tigers take a break for the holidays and return to the pool on January 2nd when the squad races the University of West Florida.
