Swimming Wins Converse Invitational
Led by both outstanding individual and relay performances, the Brenau swim team notched their second strong outing of the 2015-16 season by winning the Converse Invitational in Spartanburg, S.C. this weekend.
Courtney Hayward and M.K. Jabbia each won three individual events to the lead the squad as Hayward won the 1650 freestyle and 200 freestyle, 500 freestyle and Jabbia won the 200 breaststroke, 100 breaststroke and 100 IM.
Lindsay Dowling won two events (100 and 200 backstroke), while Alisha Hodgetts (50 freestyle) and Madison Kosater (100 freestyle) each secured one victory to help.
For Kosater, her time of 56.50 in the 100 freestyle was a personal best, while Sarah Frey achieved her first NAIA national time of the year in the 400 IM (4:58.09).
Additionally, the Golden Tigers won four relays-the 200 medley, the 400 freestyle, the 400 medley and the 200 freestyle- to cap a strong team effort.
"This was a solid performance and it was great to see the ladies trying new techniques and succeeding with it," said head coach Nate Rhoads. "Our next two meets are going to be really competitive as UNC Asheville gets faster every year and has added a lot of depth."
"Savannah College of Art and Design was last year's NAIA runners up, and Emory is the reigning NCAA II champions, but our team is gaining confidence and will be ready."
To date, the Golden Tigers have six athletes qualified for the NAIA National Championships in 14 individual events, while four of the five relays have also qualified.
Brenau next hosts the University of North Carolina-Asheville on October 30th at 4:00 pm eastern.
