Swimming Posts Strong First Day at Sewanee Invitational
SEWANEE, Tenn.- Brenau Swimming started day one of competition at the 14th Annual Sewanee Invitational Friday night by winning five of seven events and setting two meet records.
The Golden Tigers opened the meet with a first place time of 51.94 in the 100 Medley Relay. In the 50 breaststroke, M.K. Jabbia placed second with 31.86, Sophie Nasstrom placed third at 33.43 and Maria Quiroga finished eighth at 35.38.
Talia Sola set a meet record in the 50 meter backstroke with a time of 27.36, while teammates Madison Kosater and Amanda Smith finished in 30.24 and 30.52 respectively.
Brenau dominated the 100 IM as senior Michelle Billeaud won the event and set a meet record in 1:02.01. Courtney Hayward tied for second touching at 1:04.15, while Jabbia secured 4th place in 1:05.
Billeaud then won the very next event as the senior raced to a 27.19 in the 50 meter butterfly, while fellow Golden Tigers finished in fifth, sixth, seventh and ninth places to dominate the event.
The Golden Tigers 100 meter freestyle relay team of Ella Kleinschmidt, Hayward, Smith and Kosater placed second in the 100 freestyle with a time of 49.67.
Distance swimmers rounded out the evening with a victory and new meet record for Hayward in the 1650 freestyle (18.00.71), while Kleinschmidt (18:30.21) and Kathleen Rossi (19:50.88) rounded out the top three finishers.
Brenau continues day two of the Sewanee Invitational on Saturday at 10am CTS.
