Brenau Swimming Sweeps Two
During their first stop on their tour of Kentucky, Brenau Swimming defeated ASC conference and NAIA opponent, Asbury University on Friday night, 59-35 and St. Catharine College,76-11.
The Golden Tigers won nine of eleven events while posting season best times. Brenau's 200 Medley Relay remains undefeated this season clocking in at 1:53.85. Freshman Courtney Hayward (Townsville, AUS) posted a personal best time and pool record in the 1000 Free (10:36.29),followed by Kathleen Rossi (Clearwater, Fl.) with 11:29.53. Junior Shelby Rumker (Douglas, Ga.) picked up speed in the 200 Free (2:01.04) while sprinters Michelle Billeaud (Lafayette, La.) and Mary Katherine Jabbia (Slidell, La.) showed off in the 50 Free with times of 25.34 and 25.98 respectively. Billeaud also took first in the 100 Free (55.86) with freshman Sophie Nasstrom finishing second (58.04).
Hayward stayed undefeated for the evening in the 200 Fly (2:20.96) and 500 Free (5:17.70). Bella Castille (Lafayette, La.) followed with a fast 500 Free (5:32.19). The duo of Talia Sola (Madrid, Spain) and Rumker had strong 200 Backstrokes going 2:10.77 and 2:17.69 respectively, while Jabbia and Nasstrom completed the individual events with the 200 Breaststroke finishing at 2:32.48 and 2:40.43.
"It was fun getting the opportunity to race another conference team and see where our team stands in comparison," said head coach Blaire Bachman. "Our women have shown a lot of strength and determination to stay on top and be fast all season, and today the Golden Tigers were topping the events at each opportunity. There is plenty of training and hard work ahead of us and we will be even more critical in preparation towards Nationals."
The Golden Tigers hit the pool again on Saturday for their second leg of Kentucky competition when they face Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) College and Evansville College.
