November 4, 2012
The Brenau Swim team competed at the 12th Annual Sewanee Invitational over the weekend and placed third overall, falling only to Cumberlands and Sewanee.
The Golden Tigers broke two team records, 100 Medley Relay (53.50) and 100 Free Relay (49.50). The format of Friday evening was sprint based, and season best times were achieved by freshman Mary Katherine Jabbia (Slidell, La.) 50 BR (32.13), junior Monica Souther (Dalton, Ga.) 50 BK (34.86), senior Hannah Boudreaux (Lafayette, La.) 100 IM (1:02) and freshman Kathleen Rossi (Clearwater, Fla.) 50 FLY (30.38).
Saturday's full event format produced successful swims also, with Boudreaux setting a meet record in the 400 IM/200 IM (4:43.77/2:14.72), freshman Rachel Kendrick (Pineville, La.) 50 FR (26.7), Jabbia 100 BR/200 BR (1:12.09/2:37.36), sophomore Michelle Billeaud (Lafayette, La.) 100 FLY (1:00.88). Freshman Petra Hanrahan (Pinckney, MI) showed off a season best in the 500 FR (5:51.04).
Coach Blaire Bachman says "This was a challenging meet for our team, compete for the third weekend in a row. We are building endurance in practice, lots of yards are being swum to prepare us for what is next. If we can continue to stay healthy, positive and happy, we should have no problem breaking personal best times come SCAD in December."
