Soccer Blanks Union Commonwealth 3-0 in AAC Opener

Gainesville, Ga.- The Brenau soccer team opened the 2024 Appalachian Athletic Conference slate with a 3-0 shutout of Union Commonwealth (Ky.) College at Allen Creek Soccer Complex on Saturday.

After a scoreless first half, the Brenau offense found its stride in the 50th minute as senior Mia Elliot found sophomore Ryalie Acker for a 1-0 lead.

The team’s momentum continued as sophomore Sarah Clark notched two straight goals- one unassisted and one off a pass from freshman Sofia Cavazos- to help solidify the victory. 

The Golden Tigers overwhelmed the visiting Bulldogs (1-1-1 overall, 0-1 AAC) by outshooting the visitors 16-5 in the match. 

Brenau goalie Zyara Gonzalez saved two shots to earn both her second win and second clean sheet of the season. 

Brenau (2-1 overall, 1-0 AAC) continues the AAC schedule when the team plays host to Pikeville (Ky.) (2-1 overall, 1-0 AAC) on Wednesday, September 11th at 4:00 pm in Gainesville.
