Columbia Slips Past Brenau 1-0

Gainesville, Georgia- A lone first-half goal allowed visiting Columbia (SC) defeat Brenau 1-0 in an Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) soccer match on Saturday.

In the 43rd minute, the Koala’s Kylie Stewart scored an unassisted goal to allow the visitors an early one goal advantage. The Golden Tigers struggled to produce offense as the squad was outshot 7-3 in the match. 

The loss places the Golden Tigers (8-8 overall, 6-8 AAC) as the 9th seed going into next week’s 2023-24 AAC Women’s Soccer Championship. The team will travel to Bryan (Tenn.) College (7-9-1 overall, 6-7-1 AAC) for an 8/9 matchup on Tuesday. 

Bryan edged out the Golden Tigers 2-1 in their early matchup this season.
