Soccer Receives 2022 AAC Postseason Honors
Waleska, Georgia- The Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) honored members of the Brenau soccer team for their athletic and academic achievements during the 2022 season, the conference announced on Wednesday.
Senior Cindy Bonilla led the Golden Tigers by receiving All-AAC First-Team recognition. The Gainesville, Ga. native finished fourth in goals scored (11) in the AAC and tallied 28 total points, which placed her fifth among all conference players. Her strong 2022 season was highlighted by her AAC Player of the Week honor for her two-goal, two-assist performance against Oglethorpe earlier this season.
Senior Itzel Rivera and freshman Magali Bonilla received All-AAC Second-Team honors for their outstanding play for the Golden Tigers.
Rivera scored six goals on the year and notched 13 total points as a steady offensive force, while Bonilla was an instant impact defender in her inaugural season. Both players were instrumental in helping Brenau place in the top of the standings and post the squad’s best record since the 2013-14 season.
Bonilla and Rivera also joined teammates Gizelle Evan, Emelie Guerra, Stacy Mendoza, Kory Roas, Jordan Smith and Karla Torres on the AAC All-Academic team. Recipients of this honor must be at least sophomore status and have a minimum 3.25 cumulative grade point average.
