Bryan Slips Past Golden Tigers in 2OT
Dayton, Tennessee- In a hard fought contest, the Bryan (Tenn.) College Lions slipped past the Brenau Golden Tigers 2-1 in double overtime in an Appalachian Athletic Conference matchup on Wednesday.
The action started quickly as Brenau's Itzel Rivera took a Cindy Bonilla pass to score only 1:29 into the match to surprise the host Lions with a very early 1-0 lead.
Bryan (6-5 overall, 5-1 AAC) found the equalizer in the 11th minute as the Lions' Kylie Murphy scored to even the match at 1-1.
In the 88th minute, the Golden Tigers had an opportunity to win as Rivera beat the Bryan defense, but her shot hit the post and the game instead went to overtime.
The Lions had three shot opportunities in the first overtime, but Brenau keeper Daphne Ramirez registered two saves to help hold the host team at bay.
In the second overtime, Bryan's Anna Sanders registered the golden goal to push her team to victory.
The match was an even contest as Brenau edged out Bryan in shots on goal, 13-12. Ramirez notched five saves for the Golden Tigers while her counterpart Caragan Treola saved six shots for the Lions.
Brenau (3-5 overall, 3-2 AAC) continues the AAC slate when conference newcomer Kentucky Christian University (0-7-2 overall, 0-5-1 AAC) travels to Gainesville on Saturday for a 5:30 pm match at Allen Creek Soccer Complex.
