Tennessee Wesleyan Edges Past Golden Tigers 3-1
Athens, Tennessee- The Brenau soccer team came up just short in a 3-1 loss to Tennessee Wesleyan University in Appalachian Athletic Conference play on Saturday.
An early goal helped the Bulldogs gain an advantage when Julia Ruiz Vargas scored merely forty six seconds into the match for a 1-0 lead. At the 14:32 mark, the Golden Tigers struck back as Destiny Balkiz beat Bulldogs' keeper Kelly Morine for the equalizer. For Balkiz, this was her second consecutive match with posting a goal as she scored in the win against Columbia (S.C.) College last week.
The Brenau defense could not hold, however, as Tennessee Wesleyan scored in the 25th and 58th minutes to pull away with the victory.
Tennessee Wesleyan (5-2 overall, 2-1 AAC) posted 17 shots against Brenau keeper Daphne Ramirez, while the Golden Tigers had 12 shots against Morine.
Brenau (1-4 overall, 1-1 AAC) next travels to take on Point (Ga.) University (3-5 overall, 1-3 AAC) on Wednesday at 5 pm in West Point, Ga.
