Soccer Announces 2019 Signing Class
Head Coach Mike Lochstampfor announces the signing of six newcomers to the 2019-2020 Brenau University soccer team.
"This is a great recruiting class and am confident we have added players that are capable of contributing from day one. With this class we continue to add depth to the roster and with players that bring a great work ethic to the team. Most importantly, they are all excellent student-athletes and we are excited to have them join our program!
Cindy Bonilla, Fallan Lacey, Stacy Mendoza, Kajah Newton, Ruthie Pittman and Kory Rodas will join thirteen returning letter winners for the Golden Tigers this upcoming season.
Bonilla, the daughter of Eugenia Moran and Emiliano Bonilla, is a graduate of Gainesville High School in Gainesville, Ga. During her career at Gainesville, the midfielder/forward helped her squad capture the 7-AAA Region Championship and was named as both All-Region performer and a three time Gainesville High School Most Valuable Player. Additionally, Cindy played with Lanier Soccer Association's (LSA) Sharks Select Navy team which earned a semi-final spot in the 2019 Georgia State Cup tournament. Cindy plans on majoring in biology while at Brenau.
"Cindy will play in an attacking role and her quickness, technical ability, and work rate will allow her to contribute to our offense right away."
Lacey, the daughter of Charlotte Lacey, is a graduate of Dawson County High School in Dawsonville, Ga. While at Dawson County, the goal keeper was named as the Blitz/North Georgia Player of the Year and a Blitz Hall of Fame inductee. Lacey most recently played for United Football Academy in both the SRPL and NL divisions. She will major in business/human resources at Brenau.
"Fallan is an experienced goalkeeper and has played at a high level throughout her career and can be counted on to make saves. I look forward to the contributions she will make to our defense."
Mendoza, the daughter of Yolanda and Julio Mendoza, is a transfer from Georgia Gwinnett College and graduate of Chestatee High School in Gainesville, Ga. While competing at Georgia Gwinnett, the midfielder was a member of a conference championship team, a 2018 NAIA National Tournament qualifier and was named an NAIA All-Academic performer. She will major in exercise science while competing as a Golden Tiger.
"Stacy comes in with significant collegiate experience that will benefit our team in the middle of the field. I believe her impact on the defensive side of the ball will be evident from the start".
Newton, the daughter of Jo and Kurt Newton, is a transfer from Georgia Military College and a graduate of Heritage High School in Conyers, Ga. While at Georgia Military College Newton played in 36 games recording 11 goals and 6 assists. The forward plans on majoring in interior design.
"Kajah has a lot of pace and her ability to play in wide positions in either an attacking or defensive role will be a huge plus for our team. She brings a great work ethic to the team and comes with significant college experience."
Pittman, the daughter of Traci and Rob Jones, is a teammate of fellow signee Fallan Lacey and a graduate of Dawson Country High School. The forward/midfielder was an honor graduate that was a two-time region champ at Dawson County. While at Brenau, she plans on pursuing a nursing degree.
"Ruthie is a hard working player that will add more depth to our midfield and has the ability to go forward and score goals as well. Her ability to be another ball-winner in a crucial part of the field will be important to this team's success."
Rodas, the daughter of Norma Puac and Marvin Rodas, is a graduate of North Gwinnett High School in Suwanee, Ga. The health science major played midfield for the Bulldogs and was named both a Scholar Athlete and an honor graduate while at North Gwinnett. A senior at North Gwinnett this past season, Rodas helped the Lady Bulldogs win the 2019 7A State Soccer Championship while earning herself a place on the 2019 All-Region team.
"Kory is another player that has the versatility to fill several positions for us. She possesses a great work ethic and can be a great distributor of the ball and will be counted on from the start."
The Golden Tigers open the 2019 slate with a home opener against non-conference opponent SCAD-Savannah on August 25th at 12:00 pm eastern.
