Soccer Battles Bryan to 1-1 Tie in 2OTs
Gainesville, Georgia- The Brenau soccer team battled conference foe Bryan College to a 1-1 tie in two overtimes in Appalachian Athletic Conference play on Tuesday evening.
In the 16th minute, Christina Gormley assisted on Rebecca McDaniel's first goal of the season to give the home team and early 1-0 lead. The Golden Tigers held on to their lead throughout the first half as keeper Anela Melton saved three first half shots to carry the lead into the second period.
However, in the 61st minute, Summer Ghaffari scored the equalizer to tie the game 1-1 and eventually send it into overtime.
Through two overtimes, the Golden Tigers outshot the visiting Lions 3-2, but were unable to secure the win.
Melton and Bryan keeper Caragan Treola each saved eight shots in the match.
Brenau (5-5-2 overall, 4-3-1 AAC) next hosts Montreat College (4-4-3 overall, 3-3-2 AAC) on Saturday at Allen Creek Soccer Complex for Senior Day as the Golden Tigers will honor seniors Jensen Meaux, Anela Melton, Chayla Park and Casey Qua.
