Soccer Blanks St. Andrews 3-0 in AAC Opener

Gainesville, Georgia- Two first half goals helped the Brenau soccer team roll past St. Andrews (N.C.) University 3-0 in Appalachian Athletic Conference play on Saturday in Laurinburg, N.C.

In the conference opener for both squads, the Golden Tigers responded first as Itzel Rivera found Casey Qua for her first goal of the season to give her team an early 1-0 lead.

Later in the first half, Christina Gormley notched her first career collegiate goal on an assist from Mackenzie Callas for a commanding 2-0 lead going into the break.

After intermission, Brenau secured their first AAC victory as Jade Echols assisted on a Callas goal to make the score 3-0.

Keeper Anela Melton kept the Knights (0-2 overall, 0-1 AAC) scoreless and earned her first shutout of the season.

Brenau (1-2-1 overall, 1-0 AAC) faces non-conference opponent Life (Ga.) University (3-2 overall) on Tuesday at 7pm at Allen Creek Soccer Complex in Gainesville.
