Soccer Battles SCAD to Double-Overtime Tie
In the 2017 season opener for the Brenau soccer team, the squad persevered through the late summer heat, a limited bench and two extra periods to tie with SCAD-Savannah on Sunday in Gainesville.
Due to early season injuries, the team had a limited number of substitutions but played though sweltering conditions for 110 minutes against a tough opponent for a 0-0 tie.
After a scoreless first half, both teams continued to battle until midway through the second half when the Golden Tigers' Casey Qua appeared to score. The junior slipped a shot past SCAD's keeper, but the goal was disallowed on an offside call.
The Bees had their own opportunity in the 84th minutes as the visitors placed a shot off of the left post, but were unable to follow up on the opportunity.
In both overtime periods, neither team could capitalize on their opportunities and the game ended 0-0.
SCAD-Savannah (1-0-1) outshot the host Golden Tigers 25-5, but keeper Anela Melton had a strong day in goal with seven saves.
Brenau (0-0-1 overall) next travels to Cochran, Georgia to play former SSAC rival Middle Georgia College at 1pm on Saturday.
