Soccer Wins At Bethel
The Brenau soccer team wrapped up their 2015 regular season with a 2-1 win over Southern States Athletic Conference rival Bethel (Tenn.) University on Saturday in McKenzie, Tennessee.
Bethel (9-8-1 overall, 4-4 SSAC) started fast when in the 10th minute, Melinda Sopka gave the Wildcats an early 1-0 lead.
Early in the second half, the Golden Tigers benefitted from a Bethel gaffe as the Wildcats scored an own goal to even the score a 1-1.
Brenau used the momentum to turn the match when in the 64th minute, Monica Sanchez found Casey Qua for the game winning goal.
The Golden Tigers edged out the Wildcats with an 11-10 shot advantage, while keeper Ashley Spring saved four shots.
The victory set Brenau (7-9 overall, 3-5 SSAC) as the sixth seed in opening round of the Southern States Athletic Conference Tournament. The Golden Tigers travel to play the third-seeded University of Mobile (Ala.) next week.
