Soccer Runs Past St. Andrews
Two second half goals and a stingy defense helped the Brenau soccer team capture their fourth win overall and it came against St. Andrews (NC) University in Gainesville on Saturday.
After a scoreless first half, junior Jasmine Brewster blasted a free kick over the outstretched arms of St. Andrews keeper Gianna Annichiarico to make the score 1-0. Fellow junior Megan Chandler helped secure the win in the 84th minute as the Deal Kent, England native scored off of a Monica Sanchez assist for the insurance goal.
The goals marked the first of the season for both Brewster and Chandler and the first time the Golden Tigers have scored multiple goals in second half this year.
"I'm very proud of the team and how we responded to the loss in the last game," said head coach Mike Lochstampfor. "They came ready to play and put two solid halves together, playing good defense and scoring two nice goals in the process. This was a great result to prepare us for upcoming conference play."
The Golden Tigers outshot the visiting Knights 16-12 in the match as Brenau keeper Ashley Spring saved eight shots in the win.
Brenau (4-3 overall, 0-0 SSAC) opens SSAC play on Thursday when they play host to Auburn-Montgomery (Ala.) University at 7 pm eastern in Gainesville.
