Soccer Slips Past USC-Beaufort 1-0
The Brenau soccer team used a first half goal to defeat University of South Carolina-Beaufort and capture their third win of the season on Saturday in Gainesville.
Inside the 24th minute, Tiffany Raygor found sophomore Carly Hill, who notched her second goal of the season, to give the Golden Tigers a 1-0 lead. For Raygor, this marked her second assist of the season which ties her for the team lead.
In the second half, the Golden Tigers defense held fast and shut out the Sand Sharks' offense to take the match.
Hill's goal was her second game winning goal for the Golden Tigers-the first coming in the 1-0 win over Bryan (Tenn.) University earlier in the year.
USC-Beaufort outshot the Golden Tigers 12-11, but keeper Ashley Spring saved six shots to earn the victory.
"From the opening kick they [USC-Beaufort] came out pressing and were probably the hardest working team we've seen all year," said head coach Mike Lochstampfor. "We responded and defended well for the entire match and earned another win and shutout thanks to our defense. I am proud of our team and how hard we continue to work each game! And, I'm so happy for Carly [Hill] to find a way- once again- to come up with the game winner!"
Brenau (3-2, 0-0 SSAC) next travels to non-conference Reinhardt (Ga.) University on Wednesday for a 3:00 eastern match.
