Soccer Falls to #4 Cumberland
The Brenau soccer team struggled to find their offense in a 2-0 loss to #4 Cumberland (Tenn.) University on Wednesday in Lebanon, Tennessee.
Brenau (2-2) held fast on defense for a majority of the first half, but couldn't get out in front of the host team. In the 40th minute, Cumberland's Mariah Aplin knocked in a goal to take a 1-0 into intermission.
In the second half, the Golden Tigers struggled to maintain possession, but were able to keep the score close until a late Bulldog goal in the 70th minute sealed the match.
Keeper Ashley Spring turned away nine shots on goal in the loss. Brenau was outshot 28-12 for the match.
"The first five minutes was a good start but after that we couldn't keep the ball, said head coach Mike Lochstampfor. "We responded better in the second half but we didn't generate much offense even though we had some positive moments. Ashley Spring came up with a great performance in goal!"
The Golden Tigers return home for a non-conference match against University of South Carolina-Beaufort at 7 pm on Saturday at Allen Creek Soccer Complex.
