Soccer Blanks Bryan 1-0
The Brenau soccer team used an early goal to slip by visiting Bryan (Tenn.) College 1-0 on Saturday at Allen Creek Soccer Complex in Gainesville.
The Golden Tigers struck quickly for the third game in a row when in the fifth minute, senior Monica Sanchez found sophomore Carly Hill for the lone goal of the match.
Brenau dominated possession as the Golden Tigers took 12 shots on goal, while the defense held fast, allowing only three total shots on goal from the Lions. Freshman keeper Ashley Spring stopped the lone Bryan shot on goal to earn the win.
"As has been the case in our previous two matches, we came out strong in the first 15 minutes and our efforts paid off with an early goal from Carly [Hill], said head coach Mike Lochstampfor. "We had numerous opportunities which we were unable to capitalize on, but credit to Bryan's goalkeeper who had a great game."
"We will need to find a way to finish more scoring chances in our upcoming games as the quality of our competition will only get better, but it was great for the team to get this win and the shutout!"
Brenau (2-1, 0-0 SSAC) next travels to #4 Cumberland (Tenn.) University for a 2 pm central match.
