Soccer Falls in Double Overtime
After taking an early two goal lead, the Brenau soccer team lost a hard-fought 3-2 match in double overtime to Thomas (Ga.) University on Sunday in Thomasville.
In the fifth minute, Tiffany Raygor notched her third goal of the season to give the Golden Tigers a quick 1-0 lead. Inside the 20th minute, Raygor then assisted teammate Maddie Corley for her second goal of the season to increase the lead to 2-0.
Thomas University's Alleah Long cut the deficit in half in the 30th minute to make the score 2-1.
In the 76th minute, the Night Hawks' Adrianna Johnson scored the equalizer to make the score 2-2 and send the game into overtime.
After a scoreless first overtime, Olivia Taylor scored the game winner in the 100th minute to give the home team 3-2 win.
The Golden Tigers were outshot 25-18 for the match, while keeper Ashley Spring saved 10 shots.
"We came out very strong in the first half, scored two great goals from Tiffany [Raygor] and Maddie [Corley]," said head coach Mike Lochstampfor. "We couldn't sustain our momentum and gave some chances to Thomas that they finished. I'm very proud of the team and the effort and our work will pay off for us in our upcoming matches."
Brenau (1-1, 0-0 SSAC) next hosts Bryan (Tenn.) College on September 5th at 5:30 pm at Allen Creek Soccer Complex.
