Soccer Signs Junior College Standouts
Brenau soccer announces the signing of Jasmine Brewster and Megan Chandler to the 2015 team.
Brewster and Chandler come from Otero Junior College in La Junta, Colorado where both players helped their team finish ranked #4 in the final National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) national poll.
Brewster earned numerous accolades during her second year at Otero. Individually, Brewster was a team captain who was named as a 2014 NJCAA First Team All-American, a Region IX First-Team selection and the Region IX Most Valuable Player. Her performance helped the Otero squad to both a Region IX championship and the first national tournament appearance in the program's history.
A native of Bracknell, England, Brewster was also active in the Otero President's Leadership program, volunteering over 150 hours to her community and was inducted into Phi Theta Kappa for her academic achievement.
"Jasmine will likely play in a central defender role where she has the ability to win the ball and will be a great distributor of the ball for us," said head coach Mike Lochstampfor. "As a veteran player in that position, she should fill an immediate need for this team!"
Chandler was also an integral member of the Otero squad, as the central midfielder scored five goals and tallied three assists for the 11-0-1 Rattlers. The Deal Kent, England native was also a team captain and was chosen as an NJCAA Academic All-American. Before joining the Otero team, Chandler played for Charlton FC and attended John Madejski Academy.
"Megan is a tenacious player and will be a great addition to our midfield where she will likely see the majority of her time on the field," said Lochstampfor. "She is a great tackler of the ball and is very capable of getting the attack started from that position on the field."
"We are thrilled to be able to attract Jasmine and Megan to our program and I'm confident that they will make significant and immediate contributions to this year's team! They were both instrumental in helping to propel Otero's soccer program to national prominence and both come from very successful backgrounds with their respective club teams. I am looking forward to them joining our team this fall and having the opportunity to coach them. Additionally, they are both excellent students and wonderful young women and they will be a great fit for Brenau!"
Brewster and Chandler are the ninth and tenth commitments for the Golden Tigers soccer program.
