Soccer Signs All-Region Keeper Melton
Brenau soccer announces the signing of goalkeeper Anela Melton to the 2015-16 team.
Melton, a native of Dawsonville, Georgia, is a standout player for Dawson County High School and Coach Jed Lacey. As a freshman, Melton set numerous school records including most shutouts, least goals allowed and most saves. She recorded a goals against average of 1.07 in 1080 minutes of play and received the Dawson County Most Defensive Support award for her performance.
During her junior season, Melton reset her own records for individual goalkeeper play in most shutouts, least goals allowed and saves. She also improved on her goals against average, posting a mark of 0.67 in 1440 minutes.
Melton was chosen as a 2014 Region 7-AAA first-team selection and a 2014 Gainesville Times All-Area first-team performer. She was also awarded the Dawson County MVP Golden Boot Award and was the BLITZ-2014 Female Soccer Player of the Year winner for a ten county area.
She has competed at the highest club levels as a four year player for the Atlanta Fire United ECNL. In 2013, Melton helped the club to a 12th place finish at the ECNL U-16 National Championships in Denver, Colorado.
"Obviously, losing someone of the caliber of NAIA All-American goalkeeper Tori (Brown) necessitated finding a replacement that could fill those big shoes," said Brenau head coach Mike Lochstampfor. "I feel confident that Anela is that person and has consistently demonstrated over the course of her club and high school careers that she can do the job. More importantly, she is an excellent student and a great person and we are excited to welcome her to our program and the Golden Tiger family!"
The Golden Tigers graduate ten seniors from the 2014 team and will return seven players to the 2015 squad.
