#23 Soccer Falls to #4 William Carey
The #23 Golden Tigers soccer team lost 2-1 to the #4 ranked William Carey (Miss.) University Crusaders on Saturday in Gainesville.
The Crusaders' Claudia Saucedo scored the first goal of the match in the 16th minute for a 1-0 lead.
After being outshot 5-1 in the first half, the Golden Tigers came out of the half on the offensive as senior Vanessa Alexander found fellow senior Kayla Madsen in the 48th minute to tie up the match.
Both teams played to a stalemate for much of the second half until Saucedo broke the tie with her second goal of the match in the 77th minute to secure the win for the Crusaders.
"Despite being banged up and missing some key players for this important SSAC match, the team played outstanding and I'm very proud of tonight's effort and how we responded following our last outing," said head coach Mike Lochstampfor. "We had some excellent play on both sides of the ball which will serve us well going into the last couple of weeks of SSAC play."
Senior keeper Tori Brown saved six shots on goal as the Crusaders outshot the Golden Tigers 10-6 for the match.
Brenau (6-5-2, 1-3 SSAC) travels to Montgomery, Alabama on Thursday for a 1 pm central time match against Auburn-Montgomery University.
