#16 Soccer Outpaces Middle Georgia 2-1
The #16 Brenau Golden Tigers used a late goal to ensure a 2-1 win over SSAC newcomer Middle Georgia State on Homecoming Saturday in Gainesville.
Brenau controlled the first half by outshooting the Knights 9-1, but were unable to capitalize on their opportunities and were forced to take a 0-0 tie into the intermission.
In the early second half, senior Elizabeth Campbell hit a free kick from 35 yards out when a Middle Georgia defender attempted a header to clear out the shot, but instead deflected the ball into their own goal to give the Golden Tigers a 1-0 lead.
In the 81st minute, junior midfielder Monica Sanchez scored her second goal of the season to secure the sixth win for the Golden Tigers.
Middle Georgia prevented the shutout as forward Sam Smith scored in the 84th minute for the Knights.
Senior keeper Tori Brown saved one shot to earn the win as the Golden Tigers outshot the Knights 15-6.
Brenau (6-2-2) next travels to Montgomery, Alabama to take on Faulkner University at 2 pm eastern on Saturday.
