Brenau Soccer Wins On Senior Night
On Senior Night, the #13 ranked Brenau Golden Tigers honored their seven seniors with a resounding 5-1 victory over conference opponent Emmanuel (Ga.) College.
Early in the match, seniors Rachel Zarach (Acworth, Ga.) and Janay Hunt (Madison, Al.) connected when Zarach took a Hunt pass and found the back of the net for a 1-0 Brenau lead.
In the 40th minute, junior Elizabeth Campbell (Richmond Hill, Ga.) assisted senior Esther Anyanwu (Lagos, Nigeria) to increase the lead, 2-0. Less than two minutes later, Anyanwu continued her scoring tear as she scored her second goal of the period to give the Golden Tigers a commanding 3-0 lead.
Brenau surrendered a late first half goal when Emmanuel's Emma Tamblyn put the Lions on the scoreboard to cut into the Golden Tigers' lead.
Campbell, the SSAC Defensive Player of the Week, secured her second assist of the night when she found Anyanwu again to increase the Golden Tigers' lead to 4-1. Brenau scored a fifth goal in the 74th minute as Zarach found Vanessa Alexander (Toronto, Canada) to complete the win.
The Golden Tigers outshot the Lions, 14-5, while senior keeper Tori Brown (Windermere, Fl.) secured the win with four saves.
"This was a great match to close out our home schedule. We had an excellent crowd on hand to support our seniors in their final home match and the team responded well with a hard fought game," said head coach Mike Lochstampfor. "It was nice to start our entire senior class in this game as this group of women has contributed significantly to the growth of our program during their tenure at Brenau!"
Brenau (13-3-1, 9-1 conference) completes their regular season slate on Saturday when they travel to Southern Wesleyan (SC). Match time is at 5:00 eastern.
