Golden Tigers Soccer Shuts Out Eagles
In a dominating offensive performance, the #20 Brenau Golden Tigers soccer team shut out conference opponent Faulkner University 4-0 on Friday.
After controlling possession for most of the first half, the Golden Tigers finally found an opening when in the 31st minute, Kayla Madsen (Flowery Branch, GA) found Vanessa Alexander (Toronto, Canada) for the first Brenau goal. Alexander wasn't done, however, as the junior forward once again found the back of the net for her second goal of the half, taking an assist from Linda Chukwuji (Lagos, Nigeria) and Rachel Zarach (Acworth, GA) to give the Golden Tigers a 2-0 lead.
After outshooting the Eagles 17-2 in the first half, the Golden Tigers continued to attack the Eagle defense in the second half. In the 61st minute, Madsen found Esther Anyanwu (Lagos, Nigeria) for the Golden Tigers' third goal of the match. Later in the 75thminute, Anyanwu scored again, this time by an assist from Kaylee Ellison (Auburn, AL) to give Brenau a commanding 4-0 lead.
Keeper Tori Brown (Windermere, FL) preserved the shutout for Brenau, which outshot Faulkner 27-3 on the afternoon.
"We are excited to get another SSAC win, and for it to come in the form of a shutout against a team we struggled against a year ago is rewarding," said head coach Mike Lochstampfor. "We scored some nice goals, got a lot of players involved, and the team's overall effort was tremendous."
The win pushed the Golden Tigers' record to 7-3-1 overall and 4-1 in conference play.
Brenau continues the second of their Homecoming Weekend matches on Saturday at 5:30 eastern versus Auburn-Montgomery University.
