Soccer Team Garners SSAC Honors

The Golden Tigers returned home from the SSAC Tournament held in Montgomery, AL where several players were recognized for both academic and athletic achievements at the awards banquet. Brenau just completed their best season in the history of the program with a 13-5-0 overall record.

The awards for the Golden Tigers soccer players were for both academic and soccer achievements. Several players took home SSAC All-Academic honors. Those players included juniors: Linda Chukwuji (Lagos, Nigeria), Hannah Norwood (Grayson, GA) and Lauren Cain (Kennesaw, GA). Cain was also recognized as Brenau's Champion of Character.

The Tigers also received three All-SSAC First Team performers- another first for the program. As was the case in 2011, goalkeeper Tori Brown (Windermere, FL) was once again a deserving recipient of this honor which also included newcomers- Linda Chukwuji and Esther Anyanwu (Lagos, Nigeria). Chukwuji served as the Tigers central midfielder and playmaker while Anyanwu led the team in scoring.

The Tigers also took home two special awards - both going to the same recipient- Esther Anyanwu. Anyanwu received both the SSAC's Newcomer of the Year and the Player of the Year- Offense award. This marks the first time any Golden Tigers soccer player has received either of these awards. Anyanwu led the SSAC in 2012 with 27 goals and 8 assists for the season. She also ranked third nationally in scoring and had recently been recognized as the NAIA Offensive Player of the Week as one of the top forwards in the nation.
