Brenau Soccer Signs NJCAA All-Americans
Brenau University Soccer Coach, Mike Lochstampfor, is excited to announce the signing of Esther Anyanwu and Linda Chukwuji for the 2012 season. The Brenau soccer team is coming off of a successful 2011 campaign that concluded with a 10-6-3 overall record and a third place SSAC finish.
Anayanwu and Chukwuji - both from Lagos, Nigeria, have recently come off of a two year tenure at Georgia Perimeter College where they played under the direction of Coach Bruno Kalonji. Under Kalonji, both of these players were amongst the best in the nation at the junior college level.
Anyanwu, a forward for Georgia Perimeter for two years, has been at the pinnacle of her game since joining the collegiate ranks. As a freshman, she led her team and the nation in scoring and was named to the NJCAA All-American First Team and received honors as the GCAA Player-of -the-Year for her efforts. Though slowed by an injury in 2011, Anyanwyu replicated her efforts and once again was named a first team All-American, compiling a remarkable 59 points (26 goals/7assists) in 2011. Her career total at GPC was a school record 74 goals and 21 assists.
Her counterpart - Chukwuji, - has been equally impressive, playing in a midfield role over the course of her years for GPC and making her own mark for the Jaguars. Named to the NJCAA All-American Second Team her first year, Chukwuji accounted for a significant percentage of the team's assist total in spite of the fact that she too was hampered with an injury. Not to be deterred, she returned her sophomore season, recording 5 goals and 11 assists en route to being named the GCAA Player-of-the-Year and receiving First Team All-American honors in the NJCAA.
