The Rams Charge past the Golden Tigers
GULFPORT, Ms - The Golden Tigers soccer team fell to No. 3 University of Mobile this evening, 3-0, in the semifinals of the SSAC Women's Soccer Championships.
The Rams charged the field in the first half, taking the lead 2-0. Mobile's Brianna Simmons set Kassie Ruff up for both goals in the half, which were scored within minutes of each other.
The Golden Tigers took 2 shots against Mobile in the first half, while also denying the Rams another goal, due to a save made by freshman goalkeeper, Tori Brown (Windermere, FL). As for Mobile, they took 7 shots in the first half, and their goalie Lorna Brownlie committed to 2 saves.
When the second half started, the Golden Tigers were trailing the Rams, 2-0. Jenny Knibbs (Doncaster, England) took a shot at the goal, along with midfielders Kirsty Smith (Doncaster, England) and Erin Brinks (Ontario, Canada) attempting a shot as well.
With 20 minutes left in the game, Mobile's forward, Kassie Ruff, headed in her third goal of the game, bringing the Ram's lead to 3-0.
The Golden Tigers' defense put up a fight against Mobile. Brown recorded her second save of the game early in that half, as she attempted to build momentum for Brenau.
The Golden Tigers bowed out of the Conference Championships with an overall record of 10-6-3 (9-4 SSAC).
