The Golden Tigers Maul the Lady Barons
MOUNT VERNON, Ga - The Brenau University soccer team shut out Brewton-Parker College, yesterday afternoon. In the conference match up, the Golden Tigers swept the Barons 5-0, improving their overall record to 6-5-3 (6-3 SSAC). As for the Barons, their overall record is now 1-15 (0-10 SSAC).
Brenau out shot Brewton-Parker, 38-7; they took 18 shots in the first half alone, and another 20 in the second half. The Baron's defense was occupied for the majority of the game, in an attempt to tame the Golden Tiger's offense. However, their efforts were not successful, with Brenau scoring 2 goals in the first half, and 3 more during the second.
Midfielder Kayla Madsen (Flowery Branch, GA) took 4 shots against Brewton-Parker; she scored a goal for the Golden Tigers, while also contributing with an assist. Jenny Knibbs (Doncaster, England) penetrated through the Baron's defense; taking every opportunity she was given, which amounted to 11 shots (8 shots on goal), 1 goal scored, and an assist for the night.
Kirsty Smith (Doncaster, England) continued to build momentum for the Golden Tigers, as she scored an additional goal. With that said, senior defender, Laura Hirst (Huddersfield, England) set up a beautiful assist, allowing a goal to be made.
Midfielders Rachel Zarach (Acworth, GA) and Renee Ellisor (Danielsville, GA) both made their first goal of the season. Brenau's offense was unstoppable, as the Golden Tigers demonstrated the true definition of team effort.
Goalkeeper Tori Brown (Windermere, FL) played the first half, recording 1 save for the night. Sophomore Taryn Ruess (High Springs, FL) came in the second half, and earned another save for the Golden Tigers, keeping the Lady Barons off the scoreboard.
The Golden Tigers will be back on the road again this Tuesday, October 25th, as they travel to Southern Wesleyan University. The match is scheduled to begin at 5pm.
