Tigers Win Second Straight SSAC Game
October 24, 2010
Gainesville, Ga. - On a day the Brenau soccer program paid honor to four players that are closing out their college careers, they made a big jump into playoff contention with a 2-0 shutout over Brewton Parker in SSAC action at the Allen Creek Soccer Complex. The Tigers move to 2-3 in conference play and 4-9-1 overall while the Barons drop to 1-4, 2-12. Senior midfielder Dola Obahor (Nigeria) provided all the offense the Tigers would need with two goals, which gives her five straight scores in the past two games.
Dola scored the first goal (unassisted) with 27 minutes remaining in the first half on a 25yard bomb into the corner net. The Tigers had several other really nice chances in the first half but couldn't get on the end of some crosses that came across the goal. Brenau maintained possession of the ball for most of the first half but really couldn't do much as far as getting great looks on goal. Brewton Parker only took three shots in the game, so they really didn't threaten to score.
In the second half, the Barons had a great opportunity to tie the game but Lisa Lesnick came up with a huge one on one save and that was their only real chance in the game. Brenau scored the second goal with 18 minutes left when Obahor stole the ball off of a defender's foot and buried her second goal in the far corner. The Tigers got off 13 shots in the game, seven of which were on goal and Lesnick had a relatively easy day in goal with three saves.
"Dola was solid all day once again and was our most active attacking player. Tori Futrell, Janay Hunt and Lisa played well in the back and Hannah Martin, at midfield, though nursing a quad injury, won a ton of balls in the air for us. We did have some injuries to starters so they weren't at 100%. It is really nice to get another SSAC win and the shutout!" said Coach Mike Lochstampfor.
Next Tuesday's matchup with Southern Wesleyan is not only a very important game in the march to the conference playoffs, but will also serve as Greek Night as the sororities at Brenau will lend their support to the Tigers. The game will kickoff at 7 pm with a tailgating party beginning at 6 pm at the Allen Creek Soccer Complex.
