Tigers Battle #17 AUM to 0-0 Draw
October 24, 2009
Gainesville, GA- On a night when the weather played a major role, the Brenau Golden Tigers (8-3-2, 3-1-1) and #17 Auburn Montgomery (10-3-1, 4-2-1) played 110 minutes of soccer, including two overtimes, to end up in a 0-0 draw. The game was played in a steady rainstorm and as has been the case for most of the season, the Brenau defense kept the high powered Senators out of the goal, due in large part to the work of Shauna Rowley, Tori Futrell and Innis Ette. All Conference Goalkeeper Lisa Lesnick racked up 12 saves as AUM took 18 shots to nine attempts by the Tigers. The Senators also had 11 corner kicks, but couldn't convert on any of them. Even though Lily Futrell didn't get a goal, she played an outstanding game continually putting pressure on the AUM defense. With the draw, Brenau retains their second place standing in the SSAC, with AUM right behind in third. "It was a classic matchup of two good teams and the momentum shifted back and forth throughout the match," said Coach Mike Lochstampfor. "Even though we would have preferred a win, the draw helps us in maintaining our position in the conference." The Tigers will play two important SSAC games next week, hosting Columbia at 7 pm on Tuesday and traveling to Southern Wesleyan on Thursday.
