Golf Places Seventh in East Tennessee Tournament
Johnson City, Tennessee- Freshman Sasha Baker placed seventh overall in a competitive field to help the Brenau golf team place seventh at the East Tennessee Collegiate tournament, hosted at the Johnson City Country Club on Monday and Tuesday.
After shooting an opening round 80, Baker improved four strokes on the final day of competition to fire a career-best 156 (+12) and earn her first collegiate top-10 finish.
Fellow freshman Kaylee Stickney also posted her career-best tournament score with a 172 (+28) to place 35th, while sophomore Ylenia Bennasar finished one stroke behind Stickney with a 173 (+29). Junior McKenzie McRee placed 45th (+41) and fellow junior Haylee Rhodes added a 56th place finish (+58).
As a team, the Golden Tigers shot a team score of 686 (+110) to capture seventh place and finish 25 strokes ahead of eighth place Spartanburg Methodist College.
SCAD-Atlanta won the team title with a team score of 625, while Milligan's Jenny Simonsen captured low medalist honors with a 145 (+1).
Brenau next competes at the St. Andrews University Invitational in Laurinburg, NC on October 4th and 5th.
