Golf Places Third at AAC Fall Championships
Elizabethton, Tennessee- Propelled by a pair of top-ten individual finishes, the Brenau golf team placed third at the Appalachian Athletic Conference Fall Championships at the Elizabethton Golf Course earlier this week.
The team fired a two-day total of 637 (+61) to secure third place behind champion SCAD-Atlanta (+46) and host Milligan College (+49). Tennessee Wesleyan placed fourth with a 646 (+70), while Milligan's B team shot a team score of 654 (+78) to round out the top five team finishers.
Individually, Niquole Mangal shot a consistent 78-78-156 (+12) to place sixth, while Macie Hurst added an 80-77-157 (+13) to tie for seventh.
"The team gave a very solid performance over the last two days," said head coach Damon Stancil. "I thought they did well managing a course that had some quirks and demanded a lot of course knowledge in order to score well. Macie Hurst's 77 on Tuesday led us to another tournament in which we improved our scoring from round 1 to round 2."
"We are getting close to the scores we need to push for the top spot in the conference, but we'll have to keep working hard to get there."
Megan Reddick added a solid 81-80-161 (+17) to finish T11th in the championships, while Annika Blanton (80-83-163) and Amber Clayton (88-84-172) placed T17th and 37th respectively.
SCAD-Atlanta's Rachita Vasandani won the individual title with a 75-73-148 (+4).
The squad will wrap up the fall season at the Berry Invitational on October 22-23 in Rome, Georgia.
