Gainesville, Georgia- The Brenau basketball team fell to Reinhardt (Ga.) University 67-53 in an Appalachian Athletic Conference contest on Wednesday.
In the first quarter, neither team could find its stride as both squads battled to an 8-6 score. In the second quarter, Reinhardt (20-6 overall, 17-2 AAC) extended its lead with a 25-18 quarter to take a nine point lead into intermission.
With just over three minutes to go, the Golden Tigers cut the Eagles' lead to 59-51 on a Caylie Long jumper, but Reinhardt held on down the stretch to earn the victory.
Junior forward Caylie Long led Brenau with 22 points, while fellow junior point guard S.G. Bertolini added 10 points, 7 assists and 6 rebounds. Junior Kristina Peach chipped in 10 points.
I'ziah McCutchins led Reinhardt with a game-high 24 points.
Brenau (12-15 overall, 7-12 AAC) next travels to Johnson (Tn.) University (10-14 overall, 9-9 AAC) on Saturday to close out the regular season slate.
