Gainesville, Georgia- The Brenau basketball team overwhelmed Columbia International (SC) College 89-30 in an Appalachian Athletic Conference contest on Saturday.
The Brenau offense jumped out to a commanding 21-9 lead in the first quarter as senior guard Anna Gliatta scored 11 points in the quarter. In the 2nd quarter, the offense continued to play well and combined with a stifling defense to outscore the visiting Rams 28-9 to take a 49-18 lead into halftime.
The Golden Tigers maintained the strong defensive effort by holding CIU to only two points in the 3rd quarter and the squad carried that momentum throughout the fourth quarter to cruise to a 59 point victory.
Brenau held the CIU offense to only 17% shooting (10-60) in the game.
Gliatta capped off her senior day with a game-high 23 points, including shooting 6-12 from deep, while junior forward Caylie Long added 17 points.
Sophomore post Jael Flinn posted her second double-double of the week with 16 points and 18 rebounds, and fellow sophomore Sammi Spees added 12 points on 4-8 shooting from three-point range.
Brenau (10-13 overall, 5-10 AAC) next travels to Bluefield (Va.) University (3-20 overall, 2-13 AAC) on Monday at 5:30 pm eastern.
