Gainesville, Georgia- The Brenau basketball team used a balanced attack to defeat Columbia (SC) College 72-68 in an Appalachian Athletic Conference contest on Wednesday.
The Brenau offense came out firing on all cylinders as the squad shot 50% from the floor and held the visiting Koalas to 18% shooting to take an early 23-12 advantage.
The second quarter was a defensive battle as neither team found an offensive rhythm as the teams struggled to a 10-8 quarter, which allowed Brenau to take a 33-20 lead at the break.
After an even battle throughout the third quarter, Columbia made a strong run in the fourth quarter to erase a nine point deficit to get within one point with 2:30 left in the game. However the Golden Tigers made foul shots down the stretch to earn the victory.
Junior forward Caylie Long posted an 18 point, 10 rebound performance en route to scoring her 1,000th career collegiate point, while fellow junior Kristina Peach added 18 points and 6 rebounds.
