Gainesville, Georgia- A balanced attack helped lead the Brenau basketball team to a 65-61 victory over Voorhees (SC) University
The home team stormed out to an early 18-7 lead as junior Caylie Long and junior Kristina Peach combined for 13 points in the quarter.
Voorhees rallied in the second quarter by outscoring the Golden Tigers 17-12 in the second quarter to cut the deficit to 30-24. The Golden Tigers struggled taking care of the ball with 10 turnovers in the period.
In the third quarter, the squad answered with a 24-point quarter and shot a scorching 64% from the floor to extend its lead to 54-37. However Voorhees chipped away to cut the lead to 57-55 with 2:52 remaining in the game. Brenau shot an abysmal 1-15 from the floor in the fourth quarter, but Long, Peach, and senior guard Anna Gliatta each hit two free throws down the stretch to help escape with the win.
Long and Peach led all scorers with 16 points each, while junior SG Bertolini added 11 points and 7 rebounds. Senior Emelia Askew added 9 points and 4 rebounds.
Shykeria Brown (4-7 overall) led Voorhees with 11 points.
Brenau (6-7 overall, 1-5 AAC) continues conference play on Saturday with a trip to Columbia (SC) College (6-5 overall, 3-3 AAC) at 1:30 pm.
