Basketball Storms Past Truett McConnell 63-60
Cleveland, Georgia- The Brenau basketball team hit thirteen three pointers to outlast conference rival Truett McConnell (Ga.) 63-60 in an Appalachian Athletic contest on Saturday.
In the first quarter, the Golden Tigers shot a blistering 53% from the floor as junior Kait McCarter nailed two three pointers, while senior Katherine Fourie and junior Hanna Cannon also were on target from deep to give Brenau an early 20-13 lead.
The host Bears rallied in the second quarter to slow down the Golden Tigers offensive attack. Freshman Anna Gliatta helped Brenau keep pace by scoring ten points in the period to help her squad take a 33-29 lead into intermission.
After intermission, Truett tried to rally, but Brenau held the lead throughout the quarter as junior Pollie Simpson scored four points and senior Michaela Cope added four to keep a narrow 46-44 advantage.
With 6:50 remaining in the game, Truett’s Alysee Dobbs hit a three pointer to give the Bears the first lead of the game at 52-51. Gliatta nailed a deep three pointer to help Brenau regain the lead at 54-52
Gliatta led all scorers with a career-high 28 points on 11-16 shooting, including 6-10 from three point land. Junior Kait McCarter also posted a career-best 10 points, including 2-3 from deep.
Alysee Dobbs led Truett with 27 points.
