Basketball Falls to Reinhardt in 2022 AAC Tournament
Gainesville, Georgia- The Brenau basketball team rallied in the second half but came up short in an 88-71 loss to Reinhardt (Ga.) University in the opening round of the 2022 Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) Tournament on Monday.
Reinhardt came out fast as the host team shot 63% in the first quarter to jump out to a 27-10 lead in the first quarter. The Eagles continued to play well as the Golden Tigers turned the ball over eleven times in the second quarter alone to find themselves down 46-23 at the half.
After halftime, Brenau settled down and found its stride as freshman Taylor Williams scored seven of her nine points in the period. The Golden Tigers continued to press forward in the fourth quarter as the squad cut the lead to nine points, but couldn't complete the comeback.
Junior Katherine Fourie led Brenau with 17 points, while freshman Jill Pittman added 12 points. Senior Xian Lopez added nine points. seven rebounds, three assists and three blocks in her final game as a Golden Tiger.
The loss closed out the season for Brenau (6-20 overall, 5-19 AAC) which will return 12 letter winners to next year's squad.
